Scripture, Part Two

DISCUSS & ENGAGE THE SCRIPTURES

1. Read Mark 4:9, Mark 4:24-25 NLT, and Proverbs 2:1-6. We may have a desire for God's Word, but we lack devotion to it. Which of these, desire or devotion, is God inviting you to lean into this week?

2. If you have a heart to hear from God, here are four ways to engage His Word:

  • Engage God’s Word from a Jesus-focused perspective. Read John 1:1 and Luke 24:27,31-32. How does this challenge or inspire you to engage differently?

  • Engage God’s Word as a disciple. Read 1 Samuel 3:2,7,9, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and Acts 2:37. Scripture is not information; it's transformation.
    • How are you allowing God’s Word to teach, rebuke, correct, or train you?
    • When was the last time you were cut to the heart in Scripture or through a weekend message?

  • Engage God’s Word with Him. Read John 5:39-40, John 14:26, Luke 10:39-40, and Matthew 7:22-23. What do you need to change in order to stop reading the Bible and start meeting with God?

  • Engage God’s Word with a plan. Read Proverbs 8:34, 1 John 4:16.
    • If you are training, what will you need to rearrange in your life to implement this week’s practice plan?
    • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you about engaging God’s Word as you believe that God is love, you are loved, and everything He says is loving?
