Access our <a href="https://www.bible.com/events/49577397" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bible App event</a> with Scriptures and message notes from the weekend. 1. Read Psalms 23:1-3. We don’t rest from our life; we rest for it. When you think about rest or vacation, what are you usually hoping it will give you? What does real rest with God look like in your life right now? 2. Read Romans 6:10-11 and Galatians 2:20-21. Jesus didn’t live a segmented life, living differently in different spaces. He lived one life unto God. Where do you see that kind of “one life” with Jesus in your life right now? Where do you feel tension between different versions of yourself in different places? 3. Humility, gratitude, and margin are three things that help us build a life of rest. Which one is the Holy Spirit highlighting, and what does He want to say? 4. Read Leviticus 23:22. God tells His people not to harvest all the way to the edges of their field, and He invites us to do the same in the way we build our lives. What might it look like for you to arrange or rearrange your life so there’s margin for God and people?

Jesus, thank You for the life of rest You call us to. May we build a set-apart life with You.

Start Here: Take a moment to share what stood out most to you from the one-year update. What felt exciting, weighty, or faith-building as you heard what God is doing? 1. Whether this is your first time hearing about Missional Move: Create the Future or you’ve been with us, which of the five things is God stirring your heart toward right now? Why?- Prayer Center- Training Center- Argyle Campus- University Campus- 7 Continent Strategy 2. We’ve asked everyone to commit to these three things for this Missional Move. Use these questions to talk through them as a circle:- Choose to commit to Valley Creek as your church. Have you said, “This is my church” yet? If so, what does that mean to you? If not, what might it look like to prayerfully consider that now?- Give a sacrificial financial gift over the next year above and beyond your current tithes and offerings. Read 2 Samuel 24:24. What would it look like for your giving to actually cost you something? If you’ve made a commitment, how is it going? If not, is God stirring you to participate in this way?- Take one tangible next step of faith each year over the next four years. For those here for year one, what was your next step and what did God do in you? What step of faith do you sense God calling you to this year? 3. Read Hebrews 12:29 and 1 Corinthians 3:12-14. God is a consuming fire, and one day our lives will pass through that fire. What are you creating with God right now that you believe will last?

Jesus, let there be a people whose hearts are on fire for You and who use their lives and resources to create the future for the good of others and the glory of God.

Every generation is responsible for tending the fire of their lives.- What have you been hoping to pass on to the next generation, and how is God reshaping your perspective on what matters most?- Based on your life today, what kind of fire would the next generation inherit from you? 3. Read James 1:22. We’ve been having a conversation about fueling the fire, but we also need to actually take action. Leviticus 6:9-13 shows us three ways we keep the fire burning:- Remove the ash- Add what fuels the fire- Arrange our life so it continues to burnWhat’s one specific next step God is inviting you to take in one of these three areas so your fire can burn hot? Who can you invite to help hold you accountable?

Father, may Your fire fall on us so that we may become people with radiant faces, burning hearts, and holy lives.

How Do You Know If Your Fire Is Real?

Valley Creek 101 is next Sunday. If you’re new, have never attended, or know someone new, this is a great next step. Take a minute as a circle to talk about who you can invite. Also, celebrate anyone joining your circle for the first time and those who invited them! Let’s keep building a culture of invitation and asking God who He wants to be in your circle.

We discovered five things about fire in our conversation this weekend. Look at the questions for each one, and continue that conversation as a circle. 1. There is no fire in the world. (1 Kings 18:25-29, Ecclesiastes 6:7)- Where are you tempted to look for fulfillment outside of God?- What has promised life but left you wanting more? 2. Fire authenticates. (1 Kings 18:36-39, 1 Peter 1:7)- Where do you see evidence of God’s work in your life right now?- How is your faith being refined in this season? 3. Fire falls on sacrifice. (1 Kings 18:33-35, Romans 12:1, and Psalms 51:17)- Your sacrifice could be time, money, treasure, or your heart. What is God inviting you to place on the altar right now, and what does that look like?- Do you offer God your Sabbath and tithe? If not, why? 4. Fire is missional. (1 Kings 18:39)- If the fire of God burned more brightly in your life, who might be impacted? 5. Fire creates an open heaven. (1 Kings 18:41-45)- We can’t do anything without God, and He won’t do it without us. What would it look like for you to prepare and pray in this season?

Lord, may we be a people with radiant faces, burning hearts, and holy lives in Jesus’ name.

Has Your Fire Gone Out?

Take a moment to celebrate anyone joining for the first time, and celebrate those who invited them! Then talk as a circle about who each of you are inviting. Remember, if you came to circle for the first time or invited someone for the first time, plan a time to mark your move together at the Movement Board next Sunday! 2. Read 2 Corinthians 3:18. What does “glory to glory” look like for you right now, and what is the “to” God is asking you to deal with? 3. Read Ephesians 4:29-30. We can tell if our fire is out or not by the words we use and the conversations we have. What have your conversations been full of lately, and are they fueling or quenching your fire? 4. Read Luke 24:25-27. We all have areas where we can be slow of heart – where we hear what God has said but hesitate to fully believe it. With that in mind, where is God inviting you to be quick to repent? 5. Our fire doesn't grow when we learn more about our own lives. Our fire grows by learning more about Jesus, looking at the cross, and consuming God's Word. So this week, how is the Holy Spirit inviting you to fuel your fire?

Bitterness can harden our hearts, and hard hearts don’t burn. If you feel like there's bitterness or hardness in your heart, share that as an act of humility. Then, by faith, pray Ezekiel 36:26 over one another.

In the story of the ten lepers, only one returned. When you think about your own walk with Jesus, what helps you “come back” to Him and what tends to pull you away once life gets comfortable again? 4. Read James 1:17. We spent time during the message writing two cards of gratitude: one to Jesus and one to a person. Between now and the end of the year, what is one intentional way you want to practice returning to Jesus with gratitude, and how will you follow through?

This week, we were challenged to ask, listen, and respond to God’s voice about moving forward on mission toward someone else. What’s one way you can do this between now and the end of the year, and what would it look like to actually take that step by faith?

Spiritual formation is the process of being formed into the image of Jesus to become a person of love. Looking back over the past few years of your life, is your soul changing, growing, and maturing?- How so?- If not, why and why are we okay with that?- If not, what forms of counterfeit maturity are you pursuing? 3. Read Hebrews 5:11-6:1 through the lens of God’s grace rather than self-condemnation or self-righteousness, then answer these questions:- How would you finish this phrase, “By this time, I ought to _________.”- What's one way you can begin feeding on God’s Word for yourself (meat) instead of relying on “milk”?- When was the last time you said “I have sinned against the Lord,” and why do you think repentance is such an important part of maturity? 4. The last question we were asked on Sunday was, “We have a vision and a plan for everything else in life. Do you have a vision and a plan for maturity?”- If yes, what is it, and how will you walk it out?- If not, what's holding you back?

Where are you feeling the most restlessness or discontentment in this season, and how are you trying to satisfy it yourself? </li><li>Read Philippians 4:12-13 and Psalms 37:4. Contentment is being joyfully grateful for life just as it is. This means when you have who you need, it’s okay if you don’t have what you want. What might change if you chose to seek God first and waited on Him to satisfy you? </li><li>We see God’s grace in the discontentment of the thirsty Samaritan woman (John 7:37-38), the hungry Israelites (Deuteronomy 8:3), and Solomon – the man who had everything (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11, 6:7). Where do you see His grace in your own story right now? </li></ol>

We’re setting aside August 10-17 to fast and pray together as the church as we prepare our hearts for what God wants to do this fall. Fasting is simply abstaining from food so we can seek and feast on God. Why, or why not? </li><li>Decide to obey before He speaks (Luke 5:5) | Where do you need to obey what God has already said in your life so you can move forward with what He wants to say to you in the fall? </li><li>Confess and repent (1 John 1:9) | Where do you sense the Holy Spirit inviting you to let go of sin or distractions that are keeping you from moving forward with God? </li><li>Fast and Pray (Joel 1:14, 2:12-13) | What’s one step you could take to seek God with your whole heart this fall? </li></ol>

Overcoming Yourself

John the Baptist modeled what it looks like to overcome ourselves. Even before he was born, his life was marked by the vision of becoming less so that Jesus could become more (John 3:30). Overcoming ourselves just means having a higher value for what God is doing than our own preferences, emotions, or expectations. Take a moment to pause and reflect on where you let these things take priority in your life to help you answer the questions below. 1. Read Philippians 4:6-7. We can't take responsibility for our actions until we take authority over our emotions. Based on your reflection, what emotions do you need to take authority over? How can you let the peace of God guard your heart and mind? 2. Read Romans 8:5. When our minds are set on the flesh instead of the spirit, we have a tendency to “over-do” instead of believing we’ve already overcome. What is your mind set on? If it’s set on the flesh, how is God inviting you to set it on the spirit? 3. Read Acts 20:35. Where do you need to step outside of yourself and give something (time, preferences, resources)? 4. Read Luke 7:28. John the Baptist was an overcomer, and Jesus says that we are even greater than him through grace. What does your behavior say about your belief in yourself as an overcomer?

Peter’s life shows us how to live as an overcomer of our failures (2 Peter 1:5-8).&nbsp; When we experience failure, there are four questions we can ask that will help point us to truth. Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to show you what failure you’re still carrying that’s bringing you shame. Then, walk through these four questions with that situation or experience in mind. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you as you release the failure and receive the truth that you are an overcomer in Jesus’ name. 1. What happened? (James 5:16) 2. What story are you telling yourself because of your failure? (Matthew 16:18) 3. Are you willing to open yourself up to grace? Why or why not? (James 4:6) 4. How must you respond to that grace? (1 Corinthians 15:10 TPT)

Jesus, thank You that Your grace doesn’t just forgive me but empowers me. Help me remember who I am as I trust in You.

Overcoming Idolatry

Idolatry is anything you give an equal or higher value to than God (Luke 10:27). We all have an idol, so the first step is to identify it. What in your life, when it’s challenged, makes you “throw someone in a furnace” (respond in anger, passive aggression, isolation, etc.)? With that in mind, talk through the following tools that help us overcome these idols. <ul><li>Practice obedience in the small things (Romans 15:4).&nbsp;Based on the idol(s) you’ve identified, what one small thing can you be obedient with to overcome it? (Remember, Daniel’s victory in the Lion’s Den started with obedience in eating broccoli.) </li><li>Live a lifestyle of prayer (Daniel 6:10).&nbsp;What would it look like for you to live a lifestyle of prayer? </li><li>Trust in the goodness of God (Exodus 20:3). Based on the idol(s) you’ve identified, what is it that you actually need to trust God with? </li></ul>2. Read Deuteronomy 7:5. True identity helps us overcome false idolatry. What is the Holy Spirit showing you about how to take a step away from an idol and toward freedom?

In Jesus’ name, we are overcomers. Help us choose You as Lord of all.

Perfect love drives out fear. Where is fear showing up in your life right now – in thoughts, decisions, or relationships? What does God’s love want to remind you of in that place?4. God’s love isn’t something we just learn about – it’s a revelation and encounter with the presence of God. As you read Romans 8:38-39, what is the Holy Spirit showing you? Take a moment to breathe, then pray Ephesians 3:17-19 together. As you read it slowly, ask the Holy Spirit to help each of you grasp more of His love, not just with your mind but with your heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the measure of all the fullness of God.
