What Is God’s Name?

As you discuss the weekend message, remember that the kingdom of God is not cognitively understood but received by faith. Don’t try to comprehend the greatness of God (YAHWEH) with your mind, but instead, with your heart. Before you get started, let’s pray: Holy Spirit, we invite You in.

DISCUSS & ENGAGE THE SCRIPTURES

  1. How did this message increase your perspective of the awe and wonder of God?

  2. Read Exodus 33:19,34:5-7 and John 1:1-4,14. The name of God (YAHWEH), the great I AM/HE IS, contains the personhood, power, and presence of God. In His name are all the realities of God.
    1. What does this mean to you?

  3. Read Exodus 20:4-5 and Hebrews 3:1. Idols (lowercase "g" gods) are anything that have our worship (attention, affection, and emotion).
    1. Is there any area of your heart or mind where you're aligning your attention, affection, and emotion with both Jesus and other gods (elohim)? If so, how will you move forward in repentance (Romans 2:4)?

  4. Read John 8:58 and John 17:6 AMPC. As you read through these declarations of Jesus, what is the Holy Spirit saying to you? How are they causing you to think differently about God’s goodness?
    1. I AM the bread of life
    2. I AM the light of the world
    3. I AM the good shepherd
    4. I AM the resurrection and the life
    5. I AM the way, the truth, and the life
    6. I AM the vine

PRAY

Thank You, God, for revealing Your name to us. May we have a reverence for Your name and an accurate view of who You are.
