The pursuit of unity is where the character of Jesus gets formed & shaped in our lives. Sometimes we think we can't align with this or that because we have to be true to ourselves. Being true to ourself is not doing what we want; being true to ourself is pursuing unity, because that's the image and likeness in which we were made.
