RE Day Two: Peace

Add to My List
In the midst of our struggles, anxieties, and storms, the peace of Jesus says to us, "Be still." In this experience from Day Two of RE 2024, we worshipped together and cried out to the Lord as we invited His peace into our lives.

Jesus is worthy of our worship. Jesus is worthy of our awe. He's altogether lovely. He is worthy to be praised. So, once again, welcome to RE. Welcome to all those that are joining in Gainesville and Online. And welcome to a little bit of heaven on earth.

Won't you go and find your seats for me? We are in day two of a three-day encounter we call RE. RE. Two little words that are added to any given word, and they just change its meaning completely. See, at the beginning of the year, we believe that God invites us to settle our hearts, to look to Him, and let Him speak to us about the year ahead. We believe we're in a pause, an interlude of sorts right now between one year into another one. So, RE, God can RE anything. He can renew. He can redeem. He can revive. He can revitalize. He can redo and He can undo. Whatever's been done in Jesus' name can be RE'd. So, we're just believing that God is speaking to us in some beautiful and profound ways. We started off yesterday by talking about our theme verse for this RE out of Romans 14.

It just says this. "The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking. It's of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." The kingdom of God is not about striving, performing, trying to earn it. Trying to gain it from the world or from our flesh. It's of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. We said that there's a goal of joy that God wants all of us to live with this deep, unending joy, but you can't have that until you have His peace. You can't experience His peace until you know you're righteous. Until you know you have right standing with God. In Jesus, can I just tell you, you have right standing with God. In Jesus, you are good with God. And even better than that, God is good with you. God made Jesus who had no sin to be sin so that in Him, we might become the righteousness of God, of Christ Jesus.

Right standing with God. God is good with you. But today, day two, it's time to experience His peace. To experience a peace that passes understanding given to us by the Prince of Peace. Jesus says, "My peace I leave to you. My peace I give to you. I don't give like the world gives. I don't give it for a little while and then take it away. Don't let your hearts be troubled. Do not be afraid." For there's a peace that passes understanding available to each one of us. One day, Jesus is out with His disciples in a boat. Man, they'd had a busy season of ministry. They had a lot going on. Their life was just full of activity. So, Jesus does the thing that He does so well. He does a RE word. He rests. He goes and He sleeps in the boat.

Right about then, a storm pops up. And the disciples see the wind and the waves. See, what they saw out there was really representative of what was going on in here. And sometimes storms pop up. We don't see them coming. We don't know exactly where they came from. So, they cry out, "Teacher, don't You care? Don't You see what's going on?" Maybe you've cried that out at times. "God, don't You care? Don't You see what's happening in my home, in my heart, at work? The shattering of dreams, the things that I thought were going to happen that aren't coming true?" So, they cry out. And the Teacher wakes up. And He teaches them. "Peace, be still."

Anxiety, be still. Thoughts that wage war, be still. The storms that brew in your heart, be still. The worries you've carried about your family and about your teenager, be still. The lies that invade your thoughts and your mind, be still. Fears, be still. Control, be still. Insecurity, be still. Peace, be still in the name of Jesus. They cry out and in that moment, Jesus speaks to them and says, "Peace, be still." So, that's one of the ways we want to create space tonight. We want to spend some time crying out to God about what's really on our hearts. Check out this verse out of Psalm 34. The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them. And He delivers them from all their troubles.

The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them. He hears our cries. And He delivers us from whatever's going on. So, we're going to create some space to cry out. I really felt like I wanted to add this in. This is unusual. This is vulnerable. This is something we don't do very often. But you know who does this? A little child that needs their parent. A kid is willing to cry out. Out loud in public, open-hearted because they have an audience of one. They just want their mom. Or they just want their dad. Because they just need their mom. Or they just need their dad.

So, how do you do it? Well, you cry out the deep cries of your heart. The deep longings that you have. You cry out for places you want God to break through. You cry out for things you've been praying for. Maybe you want to cry out for like, it could be a good thing. It could be for faith. Or for our church. Or for the future of your family. Maybe you want to cry out about the things that feel like, "Teacher don't You care about things in our life?" And raise your voice. And what if we believe by faith that the righteous cry out and the Lord hears them. And when they do, He delivers them. I'm believing by faith. That as we take about 15 minutes as we create space, as we cry out for God, the Lord is going to hear you.

And He's going to deliver you. Maybe you start by thanking Him. Maybe you read, we're going to leave this verse up. Maybe you read the verse over and over. Or maybe you just cry out to God however He leads your heart to do it. In Jesus' name. May you cry out to God. And may He hear you. And may you believe by faith that He's going to deliver you.

Surely the love and the mercy and the peace of Jesus will follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. And guess what? Forever starts right now. So, the voice of God is life. The voice of God is peace. The disciples cried out to Jesus, "Peace, be still." And that was a common phrase. He spoke that over them over and over again. He spoke peace into their hearts.

They lived and knew that peace was a reality for them because they knew the voice of Jesus. And that's the invitation for us also. We're believing that Jesus wants to speak peace to you. That He wants to speak peace to you. And one time when Jesus was doing that, after He said, "Peace be with you," He says, "I'm going to send you out." And with that, He breathed on them the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit became their all-time access to peace because the voice of God was the voice of peace. From that point onwards, they could always hear what God wanted to speak to them. And He wants to speak words of peace. Check out this amazing verse.

"How gracious He will be when you cry for help. As soon as He hears, He will answer you." Okay. The voice of Jesus is life itself. And the Father speaks through the Spirit. And He tells you great and unsearchable things. He tells you amazing things. He speaks to your heart. He declares truth over your life. He speaks His peace to you. So, we want to continue to create space. And we're going to give you 15 minutes to receive the word of peace that He wants to speak. Some of you hearing this right now have never sensed or felt or heard the voice of God.

Well, tonight's going to be really special. Because God wants to speak to you. He wants to speak His peace to you. He wants to tell you who you really are in Him. He wants to declare all the places of your heart that feel out of sorts, out of control, stormy, He wants to settle the storms in your heart through His peace. So, you can write down the words. You can pray back the words. You can bask in the words and let them just wash over you. I believe by faith that the voice of the Lord is going out and RE, like living water, like a tongue of fire, and like a fresh wind over your soul. I say the living water of God, the tongues of fire, and the living, and the fresh wind that He's blowing into our heart, into our ears, into our mind. He's speaking to us. He wants to speak to you. Maybe He's going to give you a RE word. Maybe He's going to tell you something that you don't yet believe about who you are in Jesus.

Maybe He's going to give you a confidence for the future. Remember, the voice of the Lord always sounds loving and kind and gracious and peaceful. And so, you can feel free to sit down, to stand up, to be in place, to let the Lord speak His peace to you. Peace to you. "My peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you."

So, RE day two, the takeaway is kind of like this. When you call, when you cry out to God, He answers and His answer is peace. So, even if there was somebody in here that said, "Man, I feel like I didn't get a word. I'm like just great, nice atmosphere, nice music. I didn't get a word." I feel like I have a word from the Lord for you. Peace. Peace to your mind. Peace to your heart. Peace to your family. Peace to the storms that arise up inside of you. Peace. Peace be with you. So, we're going to soft close this a little bit. Here's what we're going to do. We're going to open up this space for you to stay as long as you need to until you can truly say, "Man, the Prince of Peace has given me His peace and I'm taking it with me as I go." We're going to have leaders up front. They want to pray for you for whatever's going on in your life. This is an atmosphere full of faith. This is an atmosphere that you can receive anything you need to be prayed over and prayed for. You can receive it by faith.

We'd love for you to experience that. This is day two. So, day one, righteousness. Day two, peace. Day three, joy. So, as you can imagine, tomorrow's going to look a little bit different than what today looked and that's a good thing. But for right now, the band's going to keep playing. We're going to have leaders around to pray for you. Take as much space as you want. Let the Prince of Peace speak to you. His peace He leaves with you. His peace He gives to you.
