Embracing the Mess

We are a family on mission. We’re beloved sons and daughters releasing our Father’s kingdom. Creating the future together can get messy, so there are three things that are the framework for what we need to be a healthy family. We must have a passion to:1. A missional move is when someone takes their next step so someone else can take theirs.<ul><li>Prayer Center</li><li>Training Center</li><li>Argyle Campus</li><li>University Campus</li><li>7 Continent Strategy </li></ul>We’re asking everyone to commit to these three things:<ol><li>Choose to commit to Valley Creek as your church</li><li>Give a sacrificial financial gift over the next two years above and beyond your current tithes and offerings</li><li>Take one tangible next step of faith each year over the next five years</li></ol>For resources and a digital commitment card, visit <a target="_blank" href="https://valleycreek.org/missionalmove/" alt="valleycreek.org/missionalmove" class="on">valleycreek.org/missionalmove</a>.

For those who have made a commitment to this Missional Move, there are three ways to frame the journey ahead as we begin. If you haven’t yet made a commitment, take time to reflect on what God is saying to you through our Missional Move invitations.&nbsp;1. Walk it out by faith. Read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/HEB.11.1" alt="Hebrews 11:1">Hebrews 11:1</a>. Faith is to act as if God were so.<ul><li>As you consider the commitment you’ve made, what is your biggest challenge? What truth about who God is will you need to believe to move forward by faith?</li><li>In what areas of life are you more sure of what you have than what you hope for or more certain of what you see instead of what you don’t?</li></ul>2. Pass the tests. Read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/JAS.1.2-4" alt="James 1:2-4" class="on">James 1:2-4</a>. God exposes and reveals our hearts through tests so He can heal and restore us.<ul><li>What tests have you already encountered, and did you pass or fail them? Are you currently in a test? If so, how’s it going?</li><li>Where are you more concerned about your pass/fail rate than seeing the test as helping you become like Jesus?</li></ul>3. Look for Jesus along the way. Read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.7.21-23" alt="Matthew 7:21-23">Matthew 7:21-23</a>. The whole point of this missional move is to meet with Jesus.<ul><li>What is one thing you can do to remind yourself that you’re creating the future with God and not for God? </li></ul>

God With Us

Start with a prayer, welcoming in the Holy Spirit and taking a moment to acknowledge that God is already with you in your Circle.1. Read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.1.21-23" alt="Matthew 1:21-23">Matthew 1:21-23</a>. God is with you. What would it look like for you to live like that was true for you today?2. The truth that God is with us has three significant meanings: it makes us fearless (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/59/PSA.23.4" alt="Psalms 23:4 NASB">Psalms 23:4 NASB</a>), it reminds us that there’s no distance between us and God (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/COL.1.21-22" alt="Colossians 1:21-22">Colossians 1:21-22</a>), and it proves that God isn’t disappointed in us (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/ROM.8.11" alt="Romans 8:11">Romans 8:11</a>). Which of these is the easiest for you to believe, and which challenges you the most? Why?&nbsp;As you reflect, think about the thoughts or phrases you might use in everyday life, like: “I’m afraid… I feel so disconnected… I’m lonely… I’m not enough…” 3. Read <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/1588/JHN.14.16" alt="John 14:16 AMP">John 14:16 AMP</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/ISA.7.11-14" alt="Isaiah 7:11,14" class="on">Isaiah 7:11,14</a>. What else is the Holy Spirit saying to you about the promise of “God with us”?

Confession & Repentance

For those who did the practice plan last week, how did it go? What did you learn about yourself and God?

Start your Circle with prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit in. Confession is agreement with God. Repentance is acting with God. Instead of discussing confession and repentance, we’ll actually walk it out together by doing the practice plan below.

By grace through faith, confess your sins to someone, then share with them your plan to repent. As people in your Circle confess their sins and their plans to repent, respond with, “In Jesus’ name, you are fully forgiven and free. May His divine power give you everything you need for life and godliness.” Remember: it’s not our responsibility to coach, correct, or counsel them.

Simplicity

What do you need to set down so you can pick up your gold shield? </li><li>What are you afraid of being exposed in choosing to transition from bronze living to a golden lifestyle? God’s invitation is for us to “stand” so He can fight our battles. Why do you think it’s more difficult to stand with a gold shield than fight our own battles with bronze? What would it look like for you to stand with a gold shield in your daily life? </li></ol>

For the blackout service we removed several service elements we love like lights, videos, and a full band as we meet with God. Whether we have all of that or not, Jesus is with us. The same is true of our lives. How can you practice this in your own life?

Jesus, thank You for Your grace to live according to Your gold standard, may we have the courage to live a kingdom come life today.

Circles are one of the ways we practice living like Jesus so we can live as disciples in our daily lives.&nbsp;As we begin the semester, let’s start by acknowledging where we are on our journey by answering these reflective questions (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/JHN.5.6" alt="John 5:6">John 5:6</a>):<ul><li>Do I really want to change? If yes, in what areas of life? If not, what is your greatest obstacle?</li><li>Have I decided I want to be a disciple of Jesus? If so, what does this look like in daily life? If not, what’s stopping you?</li></ul> 2. We can become the person God created us to be when we have vision (a preferred future for our life; see <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.4.19" alt="Matthew 4:19">Matthew 4:19</a>), intent (earnest, eager, devoted, and committed to see a new reality), and means (resources, practices, or next steps).<ul><li>Who do you want to become (your vision)?</li><li>What’s your intent?</li><li>What next steps (means) is God inviting you to take as you train to live a different way?</li></ul> 3. What Is Church?

What Promised Land have you sought outside of God’s presence (maybe even without realizing it)? Where do you want the desert with God more than the Promised Land without Him, or vice versa? And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Week 2: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/ROM.8.28" alt="Romans 8:28">Romans 8:28</a> – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Week 3: <a href="https://www.bible.com/bible/2692/PRO.3.5-6" alt="Proverbs 3:5-6" class="on">Proverbs 3:5-6</a> – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Week 4: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bible.com/bible/111/mat.6.33" alt="Matthew 6:33">Matthew 6:33</a> – "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

God, thank You for Your promises and Your ways, which are higher than ours. May we continue to put You first and trust in You as we choose to live as disciples of Jesus.
